Now that I had a nice car I was going to be seeing Darlene more. We had been going out in her car because of my embarassment with the old Rambler that I had. When I was around her I felt like I had never felt when I was with any other women.
One day after a couple of months had went by my father needed a lift to work because he had his car in for service. So I asked Darlene to come along for the ride. During the ride my father asked if we were going to get engaged? Both of us reassured him that we weren’t ready for such a thing. The next day I went to see Darlene at the dry cleaners. I was walking through the door when I saw her standing there in these red shorts, man she looked real good, I must have not been paying attention to what I was doing because I tripped over the threshhold while going through the door. It was a funny momment but I didn’t care that I was the brunt of the laughter, I was with Darlene. After a while we were sitting around waiting to close and I asked Darlene if she would move in with me when I got my own appartment? She said no that she couldn’t just live with me, so I said, “Will you marry me?” Then in her cute way she said, “is that a question or is that a proposal?” Well she had me, and I thought I was the salesman! I told her that I wanted to marry her and then she said yes. Now when people ask me how we met? I tell them I was going to dry cleaners and tripped over the threshold and fell madly in love with her.
I found an appartment with a single bedroom. It wsn’t very expensive and would work just fine for me. It was close to where I worked. It came furnished, which was good as I couldn’t afford to do that myself yet. So now I was on my own away from my father so there would be less arguments. I had after all had really beeen on my own for the past four years while I was in the Marines. Darlene still wouldn’t move in with me after all she had morals.
Being on my own meant getting an alarm clock to be able to wake up in time to go to work. In my past years the Marine Corps woke me up on time and before that my mother would do the chore. I also now had Darlene calling me with a wake up call.
The new job was pretty easy I would take cardboard and staple them in to boxes for the doilies for shipping. I would
take the boxes to the different stations around the plant. The people that ran these machines were for the most part women. They would put the product in the boxes and tape them close. Then I would remove the pallets of products and take the to the racking for storage where they would be shipped from. I had said that the women were the majority of the employees and they were. Of course the whole time I was trying to make as many friends as I could, after all I had a business to run, AmWay.
Over the next several months I made a lot of aqaintences and proceeded to sell a lot of products, I was back! Doing what I did best, relating to people and selling them a great product. To me this was fun. I still wasn’t making as much money to be able to do this full time. Part of doing this business was not just sales but networking. Networking was new to me. You have to get as many people signed up under you as you can. Not everyone is a salesperson. At least that what most people believe.
